TODAY IS MY 23rd BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6:08pm: I juried an art show at mandeville high school yesterday!
yay!

I have portrait commissions for the summer!
yay!

I am finished with projects for MOST of my classes (except graphic design)
yay!

But I still have that damn graphic design project and finals next week...
boo!

Im so tired and really needing school to let out for summer

it's finally friday!!!!!!!

so... I GOT THE AWARD FOR BEST IN PAINTING FOR THE STUDENT ART SHOW AT SLU!
two years in a row... hell yeah!!!!

the show is in the SLU gallery (not the library... the gallery) PLEASE go and check out my work! The painting that one was the one of Jean. On the other side of the show (in the gallery) is the Salon des Refuses ("show of the rejections") from the juried show... basically work that did not make it in. long story short, the guy who juried was very closed minded about art (he liked armor, tanks, voodoo, phalices, etc.) point being, we needed to show the other work that was not represented well (such as graphic design and painting) and yeah... so that is how that goes. As for me, I have no idea how my painting of jean won, BUT I am happy that it did (hey, i had three submissions that are in the reject show!) my rejected work was a painting of megan (blond girl sitting in a chair), don (blue background and exposed aprts of the wood with don by his computer), and kaity (who was my nude model)

again, please go check out the work!!!

i finished lynn's recital poster and it looks fabulous. let's hope it prints well!

6:10am: last week was busy. i had so many performances and rehearsals (none of which were affiliated with southeastern)
i started sax again... it's like finding a long lost love. I sometimes regret that I didnt stay full force with it after high school and particiapte in SLU's jazz band. that band has come a loooong way.
i think i did really really bad on my history test yestedray... sad thing is, I studied, but my mind went blank for the test (yeah, i guess stress and lack of sleep can do that)
i started going to a yoga class on mondays at 9. it really helps with this stress thing (but not enough to save me from blanking out)
i have another test today.... yikes. im so tired.... so.. so... tiiiireed.

i hate having to wake up so early. yeah, i decided to post while getting ready for school.

2:22pm: im in my digitaldesign class right now. we're about to have a crit, but we are kinda just sittin at our computers. tonight is my show! yay! end of some extra unnessecary stress for a while. yeah, i spelled that word wrong but who cares. i could use spell check too, but again, i dont care! so....

yeah. all right... tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6:03am: Visual Arts Society show today in the sims memorial library. opening starts at 5:00pm and the show is up until march 1! come check out some of my paintings!!!!!!!!!

I got some awesome things this year! yesterday, my family got together for xmas eve. laura came over and celebrated with us, too. we had a nice dinner, then swapped presents. it was a really nice night despite all of my baking hazards and catastrophes from earlier that day.
today I go spend time with dom's family and then my family is going to the ryals' house!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love me some moe moe and her brother brian!!!!!

oh and saturday I saw happy feet. awesome movie!!!!! I LOVE penguins! I've loved penguins ever since... maybe junior high? point being, it's weird how they're popular all of a sudden. byebye polar bear! hello penguin!

11:28pm: woo! so Im back from houston! the trip was awesome. not much to say other than it was a successful VAS trip.
art places that I went to see:
Museum of fine arts- houston (2 buildings and a sculpture garden)

art opening at some art gallery
another opening at an art store (but you dont purchase supplies at this store, you purchase ART... yeah! it's not a gallery though. they sold like print-making people art aka prints, books, buttons, etc not paintings and such)

sooooooooooo Im finally home! yay! i missed home. it was weird finally being away. I had a good time, and I got to see a lot of fabulous art (old and new) which satisfied my sweet tooth (for now)
I must admit, after seeing a lot of surrealist paintings in person, it made me like them less than before. I dont like surrealists to start off with (to self-centered and dali... oh just dont get me started about him. *gags* guy is phenomenal when it comes to technique though)
point being, I did not enjoy the colors or surfaces of most of the paintings. they seemed to have very few thin layers of paint, which isnt normally a problem, but I ont think that the paintings I saw should have been dopne that way. they just needed like two more coats of tinted glaze in some areas, and THEN I think they would have been way more enjoyable. Of course, the subject matter was not enjoyable... that's another story.
surrealism was great for it's time because it was something new and what not, but when people try to revive it (or worship dali and his art movement), it irritates me...

I saw a sargent painting, and I wasnt as excited as I would have been if I had seen it two weeks before. I talked to alexander, and he told me to quit looking at him and look at fischl more. he gave me an amazing compliment, too, saying that he thought what I was doing with the figure was a lot more ineteresting than sargent (notice, though, he did not say i was better nor technique was better or anything like that... if I was better, I wouldnt be at slu still, i would be in New york making big bucks...)
point bieng, my conversation with him changed the way I think (yet again) about figure paintings, and Im kinda like "ok, I came, I saw, and I might not have conquered, but I surely as hell need to move on" type of thing... being an artist is so wonderful because we are always developing who we are and what we do... wow.

im so tired and i dont know if anything makes sense. sorry if it's confusing

ok so... school is out fo rthe semester. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tomorrow I start working for alexander again.
im going to houston this coming weekend
i have a lot to practice this break
i will be painting a lot (for alexander)
i will get to hang out with megan a lot
my boyfriend will have two weeks off...
i will hopefully give flute lessons...
...and take flute lessons

and i hope that these damn canker sores will quit popping up in my mnouth because they make playing painful... :-(
my mom said she always got these when she was my age... crap. why do I have to get them, TOO???????

6:53am: ok i havent had an entry in a while and I keep meaning to update, but oh well here goes:

been busy with school... and art. I have two paintings due next tuesday (YIKES!!!!!!!!) I have NOT been putting them off; they are oil paintings, which require drying time in between layering... poop. fortunately, they are of megan, and I enjoy painting megan so it all works out.

I have my welding scuplture due not this wednesday, but next wednesday.... i think it might be doable...

I have a ten minute presentation to give about eric fischl... yeah. I need to start that because I do that next thursday.

this stuff is also aside from the concerts, gigs (yes, I have two gigs comin up so yay for money), rehearsals, and final exams.

Saturday I went to the House of Blues to see Imogen Heap! HELL YEAH! I went with my older brother Don. We decided to eat inside for dinner, which was kinda cool. I did not get to touch Imogen, but I did have a good viewing spot the whole night (even though I was kinda far from the stage) yay for an AWESOME concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the concert, don and I bumped into rusty and vanessa stegeman (malcolm's ex) and that was weird because I hadnt seen either of them in sooooo long.

Not much to say about this week.... Thanksgiving thursday... shopping to come friday. Im not sure how bad I want to go now. ever since I bought a new flute, i've been really poor. I NEED MONEY! fortunately, I will start working for alexander again soon, so I will get money for doing what I love (PAINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I'm just letting the world know that I still update, but ever since January (or something like that), I've been posting friends-only posts. If you want to read and you are not a friend, leave me a message.

I decided to post only to my friends because the thought of people I don't know reading my posts and then typing their random advice, opinions, etc was unnecessary/unwanted. (I know I can block random posts, but I like this option for now.)

8:18am: so things have been going...
i cant believe how fast this break has been. i need more time! my muscles in my right arm are inflamed according to my aunt due to overuse from things sch as: flute, painting, computer. great. (and btw, it doesnt feel good to type, but yeah....) it just feels like my muscles are rubber in some areas and hard as hell in others from my elbow down. yay for muscle spasms *sarcasm*

my family helped don move in yesterday. other than that, i had a flute lesson...

i ate at jazzmine's (a vietnamese restaurant... YUM!) and i had mango bubble tea. i LOVE bubble tea!

i wishi had cool stories to post over here or something funny... but then again, it's like 8:23 right now and i'm like "uuuggghhhhhh"
im going to go pick up my SLU textbooks today... cant believe that it's already time!!!!

9:28am: back to work i go today!

i wish this break wasnt so short... i didnt really do anything (and that was due to sickness and now people not being available) : (

i've been helping tear the shingles and felt off of the shop's roof... yay : /

and im still doin my jump rope stuff

but it's cool i guess because then that is basically granting me more time for ME (meaning school, flute, art)

i started jumping rope again! (havent done that since august or spetember... it's been a while)

5:44pm: ugh i feel fat... i swear, i know im so freaking skinny, but why do I jusy about always feel fat?!?!?!
ARGHH!!!!!!! I did gain a little pudge in the past two weeks from not walking around campus so much(which isnt much to complain about)but damn!
well, it's my journal... and i feel like whining

i tried to fix that drawing i did for dom's sister, but there was so much mold and the paper was falling apart, that im just going to redraw the damn thing *sob* poor drawing... i soent weeks on it last summer...

i finished xmas shopping! yay! just need to wrap everything

and practice

i havent practuiced that WS music yet... better get started!
